Tennis Exercises for Team Practice

If your team or tennis-playing group is anything like mine, you just get out there and play without doing any specific tennis exercises or practicing any techniques for tennis. Next time you are on the courts with a group of friends or teammates, try this point-play tennis exercise instead. It works whether you have enough for one, two or three courts, emphasizes fair play in tennis, and is a lot of fun!

On each court, there is a serving and a returning doubles team. The returning team is trying to win two out of three points in order to move into the serving position on the same court. The serving team is trying to win three of three points in order to move up – to the NEXT court – and bump the returning team from that court down to the court just vacated by them – the winning service team. Sound confusing? Once you get the hang of it, it runs smoothly and gets your team laughing and playing serious points at the same time. Have a little friendly competition at your next practice – it will improve your team’s match play, build team camaraderie, and provide a fun alternative to regular set-play.
